Antero Reservoir is ice fishing good! If you’re willing to put foot to ice and cover some ground, you can be well rewarded for your efforts. Look for areas that don’t have high traffic and start there. Due to this crazy Colorado weather the ice conditions can vary greatly from 12-14 inches where the snow has stayed on the lake to 5-7 inches where the snow has melted off the lake. To know for sure what you’re standing on check the ice often with your auger.
The water conditions are cloudy in Antero and we found bright colored ice jigs and tubes to be working best tipped with your favorite bait, wax worm, mealworm, or shrimp. Both the dead-stick presentation and active jigging presentation work, with location seeming to be more of a key than presentation.
