Spring fishing in Colorado lakes is one of the best times for big trout! Spring marks the spawn for many of our trout species which makes it prime time to target bigger fish. Pre-spawn, spawn, and post-spawn is a special time in the trout's cycle that provides the angler an unique opportunity to target bigger fish. For big trout will be looking to put the feed on to produce eggs and sperm for the spawn, then these big fish will be aggressive while in the spawn protecting the process and their offspring, then once again these big trout will be looking to feed and recover from the hard process of the spawn. All three of these stages provides the lake angler an unique opportunity for bigger trout fishing.
In Colorado lakes many of these big trout will be in different stages of the spawn where anglers can target them. However once these big trout move up the rivers and streams onto their spawning beds it's important for these bigger fish to complete the spawning process in a natural and unstressed setting to optimize a successful spawn and insure high quality genetics are pasted along for seasons of great fishing to come. With the spawn complete these big trout will move back into the lakes where anglers can successfully target them again.
