The fall bite for big trout in Colorado is on! When the hours of sunlight decrease and the nights grow colder, the ingredients come together to trigger the bigger fish to start the feed for winter is coming. This time of year the trout are actively searching for food trying to stock up on calories for the winter months. Several presentations are working well including minnow patterns, crawfish patterns, and leach patterns depending on your tool of choice, spinning gear or fly gear. The fish’s mood has been changing throughout the day and without notice so change lures and presentations often. At times the trout preferred an active swimming minnow presentation worked in the mid to high water column, then the bite would die off and a slow jigging crawfish presentation popped through the weeds seemed to be the ticket. The big trout in our mountain lakes are nomads so if you are not on the bite and tried a few tactics, move spots. As the day progresses we consistently find that the active fish are on the move, so we do the same. Thanks for Reading and Fish Hard! FishHead Outdoors

AuthorFishing is not a hobby, it's my lifestyle. If I'm not on the water, I'm thinking about being on the water. Obviously obsessed, the fishing journey has carried me across the Rocky Mountains eventually across the states, where I encountered the term "FishHead" for the first time. "FishHead" - a person who is completely consumed by the thoughts of fishing; an incurable sickness caused by fishing that consumes a person during all awake hours and usually persists throughout the sleep cycle.
